Stormy Zings Trump From Witness Stand | Mar-a-Lago ComicCon | Breaking Up Paramount | Brain Worms

Politics • Views: 13,683

Stormy Daniels landed a few verbal punches during her testimony in Trump’s hush money trial, the former president hosted NFT buyers for a meal at Mar-a-Lago, CBS could be auctioned off if Paramount is sold, and there’s no end to the fascination around the worm that ate a portion of RFK Jr.’s brain.

Some Republicans and conservatives are so aghast that President Joe Biden is threatening to withhold offensive weapons from Israel that they are raising the specter of impeachment.

“Now some people say Joe Biden is doing this for reelection, which would be bad enough,” Sen. Tom Cotton, an Arkansas Republican, told reporters at a news conference slamming Biden’s comments. “It would also, I have to add, be grounds for impeachment under the Democrats’ Trump-Ukraine standard — withholding foreign aid to help one’s reelection. Only with Joe Biden, it’s true.”

while we struggle as a world to get this addressed, I fear the only thing that may save us is a catastrophic volcanic eruption to dump enough crap into the air to bring the temps down.

Volcanic sulfur and ash precipitate out quickly. After a couple of years they are gone.

What we are doing will stay in the atmosphere for millennia.

The current global YoY increase in CO2 is the highest on record, even with all the hoopla over cutting emissions.

Top media company CEO pay in 2023:

Disney: $31.6M
Warner Bros: $49.7M
Netflix: $49.8M & $40.1M
Comcast: $35.5M
Paramount: $31.3M

Remember when execs claimed they couldn’t afford to pay writers and actors more during the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike?

That was pure fiction.

Heh. It’s the Southern Cassowary. That’s a big ol’ bird and looking for an easy meal. From what I read about cassowary/human interactions, people throw them food, and cassowarys have gotten somewhat used to this, which can lead to potentially dangerous situations. The first season of Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea was serious but the remaining seasons turned the show into absolute camp. You just waited for the moment when they would do the rock & roll with the sparks flying everywhere.

I remember seeing it in reruns after school. If it was one of the good episodes (first season or not as hideous later ones) I’d watch it, with great pleasure. A camp one, it would depend on what else was on opposite. Usually Hogans Heroes would win. It too was campy but you could understand that satire and that the Nazis were supposed to lose big time.

This just solidifies my feeling that money corrupts the brain in any unequal system. I don’t know if it’s survivorship bias, or something else, but if you give people too much money while others starve, it triggers some innate response to make it OK. Hence, the ultra-rich turn to eugenics and other bigotry to assuage their feelings of guilt.

It’s a shame, because the obvious solution is to alleviate their guilt by taxing them at a high level, and spending that money on lifting others up, that lets them know they are helping.

Lara Trump could have chosen a different path. It’s telling that almost no wealthy people do. They all get worse.

There is a way to use asteroids to reduce the effect of CO2 in the atmosphere and it might only kill a few million people. It’s tricky though.

A skimmer asteroid of Unusual Size collides with the upper atmosphere above the central Pacific but bounces off, removing about five percent or so of our atmosphere as it goes. The shockwave causes a megatsunami around the Pacific basin, a serious downside but compensated by the fact our atmosphere is now less dense and so it doesn’t retain as much heat as it does today. Big win!

That’s been the worry. PGM also, however. Al Jazeera correspondant Moamen Al Sharafi was on the air when his entire family was killed at their apartment-and only their apartment was hit. When the Where’s Daddy targeting protocol was leaked to the press, I had a horrifying realization that is probably what was behind the PGM strike on his family. He was meant to be killed as well as his family with him.

The good news: I saw Biden’s motorcade on my way home from running errands. The bad news: I was sitting stopped in my car in an 80° noontime sun for 15 minutes or so while we waited for the motorcade to show up. Had I headed home 5 minutes earlier I would have been denied both pleasures. As it was, I arrived home in time to see Marine One leave from where they had dropped Biden off. That is one loud helicopter.

Looking at that paper, they are reviewing exceptional events. Three eruptions in a couple of thousands of years.

In the Northern hemisphere are not many volcanoes at very high latitudes. You have to get down to Iceland to get a significant number, and then also the Aleutians and Kamchatka.

Thing is, though, those three regions have lots of volcanoes, many eruptions per century.

And yet there are only three big enough to cause the extreme conditions discussed in that paper.

So while a rare volcano can cause such cooling, rare is rare.

That paper gives one cause for concern, still.

Because it’s one in a long list of evidence that in the Holocene climate (of which we are part but are forcing our way out of) is more sensitive to changes than previously thought.

This is one of the reasons for the Hansen et. al. argument that our climate is more sensitive to the changes in CO2 than the IPCC latest reports constrain.

Hansen et. al argue that the pollution from ocean shipping, especially in the North Pacific, has had a stronger cooling effect than previously accepted, and that this cooling has led to accepting lower climate sensitivity numbers based on post WWII temperature measurements.

A Large Igneous Province (LIP) event will be game-over for civilization. Humans might survive at much lower population figures, but a LIP event the size of the Columbia River Basalts, which was much smaller than the Deccan Traps, will cause the world to be much, much warmer.

As for super-eruptions - Yellowstone is unlikely anytime in the future of our current society. However, volcanoes like Iwo Jima or Campi Flegrei might erupt in the next century or two.

Iwo Jima has been erupting lately, but just smallish side-vents. It has risen tremendously since the US conquered it in WWII. A full-on VEI 7 eruption will definitely affect the climate.

Quite a few more in the northern hemisphere than the southern. Alaska and Iceland obviously, Japan, North Korea/China, Norway(!) and Canada. Mid Hemisphere eruptions are also of considerable concern apparently in some other papers, but I don’t have time right now to review them.

Target has announced that it will only sell their Pride Month collection in select stores after suffering a backlash and boycott last year during the 2023 Pride season.

The company says that instead of offering their Pride Month collection merchandise across all stores, they will be “offering a collection of products including adult apparel and home and food and beverage items, curated based on consumer feedback. The collection will be available on Target.com and in select stores, based on historical sales performance,” the company said in a statement on their website on Thursday.

I unhooked the dining room chandelier today and replaced it with a ceiling light since we are getting a new table where the seats and top are higher, we donated the old giant oak table to Habitat for humanity since it’s still in great shape after 24 years of use and abuse.

I have a theory about why smaller breeds are more “aggressive” and it mostly has to do with the fact that we spent 10,000 years breeding wolves to fit in our pockets. The more serious version of it is that if you were small enough that anyone could just pick you up whenever they wanted and everyone was bigger than you (and therefore a potential threat), your wolferly instincts would also say fight.

Interesting though

At the request of Trump’s lawyers, Justice Juan Merchan has instructed prosecutors to ask Michael Cohen — who’s expected to take the witness stand Monday — to stop publicly talking about the case and Trump,” Politico reports.

Eta oh wait that’s not accurate politico.

Fact is judge canNOT order him to stop talking. Fact: at the request of Trump’s side, they asked he be stopped, the judge said he has no authority to do that but he did ask the prosecutors to ASK Cohen to knock it off.

That is NOT the same as being “ordered” to.

also, almost every small breed was bred to be hunting dogs - chihuahuas and yorkies were bred to hunt rats, JRTs were bred to hunt foxes. Hell, even dachshunds were bred to hunt badgers… of course they’re all going to be assholes.

Probably because Judge Merchan is afraid that Cohen will bait the defendant into violating his gag order, resulting in him having to jail said defendant, which he has already said he does not want to do.

And a spinoff of Ben & Jerry’s, Cornetto, Magnum, Talenti, and Wall’s from Unilever next year (to cut costs and headcount for Unilever, natch) was just announced back in March.

That said, for the most part, Unilever’s let Ben & Jerry’s run their own show much as they always had, even down to them continuing their history advocating on social and political issues.

So is there a “domestic dispute” brewing in the Trump household?????

‘Melania slapped it down’: Breaking Barron Trump news spurs immediate mockery of Donald

Breaking news that Melania Trump had declined on her son Barron’s behalf an invitation to serve as a Florida delegate to the Republican National Convention spurred almost immediate mockery of his father, former President Donald Trump.

A spokesperson for Melania issued a statement Friday hours after Trump publicly boasted of his youngest son’s height and political prowess.

The Office of former First Lady Melania Trump confirmed in a statement to The Daily Mail, “While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments.”

Gee I wonder why??????

Someone I knew used to work in Fort Dunlop, the Dunlop factory in Birmingham, running the big rubber mixers. On startup the power draw for the mixers was high enough it could black out the local grid so they had to coordinate with the power company before throwing the big switches.

As an art deco industrial building it was listed Grade A for preservation and now hosts offices and a hotel.

The last decade has been a continual psychic assault on decency, with That Thing at the center of it, and I have no doubt that many of us will end up with CPTSD from this era.

This week in May has always been a big week for me; my father’s birthday, Jot’s birthday, our wedding anniversary, all in the same week.

Rudy Giuliani Yanked Off Trump Pal’s Radio Station for Election Lies

thedailybeast.com

It just got a little harder for Rudy Giuliani to pay his titanic legal bills and judgments: He was yanked off his radio show by fellow Trump pal and station owner John Catsimatidis for flogging the Big Lie.

Giuliani, who reportedly made $15,000 a month inflicting himself on WABC listeners, ran afoul of the rules by falsely claiming on air that the 2020 election was stolen.

The former New York City mayor, who declared bankruptcy last year after being ordered to pay $148 million to two Georgia poll workers he defamed, is now locked in a war of words with Catsimatidis, the billionaire supermarket mogul.

“He did it to himself,” Catsimatidis told the New York Post.

Wait until they hear what Reagan did.

they already don’t like Reagan anymore. Because amnesty for the undocumented, and gun control.

You can keep an eye on space weather conditions at the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. It will be interesting to see what the effects are, since we’ve got a lot more stuff flying around up there than we did in 2003.

re: #68 A Cranky One

This is funny because when my dog Banjo was a pup we were attacked by a pack of Chihuahua puppies… their tiny tongues tasting my ankles and Banjo taking it all in with great joy. Good times.
